Senator
Gregg announces Senate Appropriations Committee support for New Hampshire
Community Health Centers
WASHINGTON
- U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) today
announced that the Senate Appropriations Committee has approved $400,000 in
federal funding in the Fiscal Year 2008 Senate Labor, Health and Human Services,
Education Appropriations bill to assist with services and infrastructure
improvements at nine non-profit New Hampshire Community Health Centers. The
Centers are in medically underserved areas and provide comprehensive primary and
preventative health care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. The funds
will help to address the increasing number of patients without health insurance
seen at these centers. Last year, approximately one-third of all patients
at the NH CHCs did not have health insurance, and the number of uninsured
patients seen by CHC’s increased by approximately 13%. The appropriations bill
is now ready for consideration by the full Senate later this year. The funding
for this project is included within the Committee allocation set out for the
Fiscal Year 2008 spending bills.
Senator
Gregg, a member of the Senate Appropriations Labor-HHS-Education Subcommittee,
stated, “Community health centers provide an important resource to communities
around
New Hampshire
. These federal funds will help the New Hampshire Community Health Centers serve
more people throughout the state. I commend Bi-State Primary Care for all they
do to ensure that all
Granite
State
residents have access to quality health care.”
Tess
Kuenning
,
Execute Director of Bi-State Primary Care, stated, “New Hampshire's Community
Health Centers serve nearly 100,000 patients in communities statewide,
regardless of a patient's ability to pay. Senator Gregg is championing funding
for the health centers because he understands the value of their quality
medical, dental and behavioral health services provided to their patients. The
health centers see a high volume of uninsured, underinsured and Medicaid
patients within their practice. We are grateful to Senator Gregg for helping to
support the health centers with resources for the capital and equipment needs
necessary to provide high quality medical, dental and behavioral health care to
their community.”
The
following New Hampshire Community Health Centers will benefit from this award:
Ammonoosuc Community Health Services; Avis Goodwin Community Health Center; Coos
County Family Health Services; Family First Health and Support Center; Health
First Family Care Center; Healthcare for the Homeless Project; Lamprey Health
Care; Manchester Community Health Center; and White Mountain Community Health
Center.
