Community Health Center Week

August 5 through 11, 2007
The week of August 5-11 is Community Health Center Week. The purpose of Community Health Center Week is to demonstrate the value of the community health centers and bring visibility to their work.
This year's theme is "America's Health Centers, Your Health Care Home." A health care home — or regular source of primary care — prevents sickness, manages chronic illness, and reduces the need for avoidable, costlier care such as emergency room visits and hospitalizations.
Today, 35 million Americans — many of whom actually have health insurance coverage — lack access to a health care home because they live in communities where there is an acute shortage of health care providers.*
