Community Health Centers celebrated in Vermont

STATE OF VERMONT
EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Community Health Centers are nonprofit, community-based providers of comprehensive primary and preventive health care offering service regardless of insurance status or ability to pay; and
WHEREAS, Community Health Centers are a vital component of Vermont’s health care infrastructure, providing access to essential medical, behavioral and oral health services for the uninsured and other vulnerable and underserved populations, providing care to over 133,000 individuals in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Community Health Centers help contain overall health care costs through comprehensive preventive and primary care health services and coordinating delivery of quality care with outreach, patient education, and other enabling services, consistent with the Blueprint for Health Initiative; and
WHEREAS, Community Health Centers promote 100% access and zero health disparities to help achieve health care for all people.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, James H. Douglas, Governor,
do hereby proclaim August 5-11, 2007 as

COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER WEEK

in Vermont and encourage all citizens to recognize the important contributions of community Health Centers in safeguarding health and improving the quality of life for all people in Vermont.
